APAP, New York 2010

Culture Ireland staff took off away from cold, snowy Dublin to ….cold, snowy New York yesterday for their annual attendance at APAP – the Association of Performing Artists Presenters Conference, being held this week. This conference will host an enormous amount of talent from across the globe and it’s reassuring to know that Irish performers can hold their own on such an international stage.

According to Culture Ireland’s website “over 90 leading Irish performers and promoters will touch down in New York in January to present and promote some of the best of Irish performing arts practice to an audience of international presenters and promoters.” The presenters include some of the finest from new and emerging theatre such as representatives from Guna Nua (responsible for the hugely acclaimed Little Gem); Pan Pan (of Oedipus Loves You and Crumb Trail fame) and Rough Magic.

2009 was a scary year for the arts industry all over Ireland, and it’s encouraging to know that such an enormous and beneficial event is happening for Irish artists in the very first week of 2010!
